A major step in the run-up to the general elections on December 7 is the special voting that is currently taking place at a few polling places throughout Ghana.
This exercise is intended to give people who will be playing important roles on election day the opportunity to cast their votes ahead of time and guarantee their availability for election-related tasks.
Media representatives, security guards, and electoral officials who will be actively participating in the general election process are the main targets of the Special Voting.
About 131,478 people, or 0.007% of the 18,741,159 registered voters, are anticipated to take part in this crucial exercise today, December 2, according to confirmation from the Electoral Commission (EC).
With the exception of the Eastern and Western Regions, 14 of Ghana’s 16 regions are holding special elections. Due to an EC order to recall and reprint ballots after a reported security seal breach, voting is not taking place in these two regions.
Special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5 in order to maintain the integrity of the process.
At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa gave the public reassurances about the legitimacy and effectiveness of the voting procedure.
She emphasized the EC’s commitment to resolving all issues, maintaining openness, and holding a free and fair election.
At specified polling places spread throughout the 14 regions, the Special Voting exercise takes place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Voters who qualify must show poll workers a legitimate form of identification in order to cast a ballot.
Votes cast in Special Voting will not be counted on the same day as regular voting. On December 7, they will be counted at the Constituency Collation Centers after being safely stored.
Following their independent documentation on Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms, these outcomes will be incorporated into the final election results.
