Professor Kobby Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School has applauded the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to establish a committee to investigate its significant loss in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on TV3’s News Central, he described the move as “a far-reaching decision” and “a very good call in the right direction.” Mensah emphasized that the party needs to “reflect on their principles,” suggesting that the current executives do not embody the NPP’s intellectual brand ¹.
The NPP’s defeat was substantial, with their candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, securing 4,657,304 votes (41.61%) compared to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, who won with 6,328,397 votes (56.55%).
National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim expressed disappointment, stating, “We were very hopeful and positive, and our aim was to secure an emphatic victory at the polls.” Despite this, Ntim commended the party’s campaign teams for their efforts.
The committee, set to be formed in January 2025, will review the party’s performance in the 2024 general election.
