Christmas Eve turned into a nightmare for workers at the Saglemi Affordable Housing project site as a devastating fire swept through a warehouse, destroying valuable materials and equipment.
The blaze, which occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, was brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after a tense three-hour operation.
According to the GNFS, the fire involved five 40-foot containers at the Saglemi Housing Project.
Fortunately, despite the containers and their contents being completely burnt, fire officers from the Sege and Devtraco Fire Stations were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the housing project itself.
The quick response of the fire officers also ensured that there were no casualties reported. The GNFS has been praised for its swift and effective response to the emergency, which prevented a potentially disastrous situation from unfolding.
The site managers clarified that the area destroyed by the fire was being used as a storage facility, contrary to earlier reports that it was being used as offices. The cause of the fire is still unknown and is likely to be the subject of an investigation.
The fire outbreak at the Saglemi Affordable Housing project site is a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for emergency services to be readily available.
The GNFS has demonstrated its capabilities in responding to fires and preventing damage, and its efforts are commendable.
