Ghanaian Singer Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has successfully completed her second attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, performing for an impressive 121 hours and 39 minutes.
The marathon, which took place at the Heroes’ Park at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, began on December 21 and ended on December 25.
During her record-breaking attempt, Afua Asantewaa showcased her vocal stamina and cultural pride by performing over 200 Ghanaian songs across various genres, including gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.
Speaking after the event, the determined singer expressed her satisfaction with the feat, saying, “I want to again say I am fulfilled; considering the fact that I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs.”
Afua Asantewaa also acknowledged the crucial role played by her dedicated team, including her manager, Gladys Osei Owiredu, and other members who provided support throughout the marathon.
This attempt marks her second try at the record, following a previous effort in 2023 that did not qualify.
The existing record is currently held by India’s Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours.
Despite her previous setback, Afua Asantewaa remains optimistic about the final outcome of this attempt.
In the coming days, she and her team will submit evidence of her performance to Guinness World Records for review.
The organization will assess her attempt to determine if it qualifies for the title.
The event received widespread support from various sponsors, including Ike’s Café & Grill, Nasco Electronics, and Zoomlion, among others.
With her remarkable achievement, Afua Asantewaa has not only showcased her talent but also promoted Ghanaian music and culture on a global stage.
