The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended 184 members from its Yendi Constituency for breaching the party’s constitution.
The decision, announced by Constituency Chairman Nashiru Abdul Karim, follows thorough investigations into allegations of misconduct related to the recent presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to a press statement issued on December 26, 2024, the party’s leadership received several complaints from members, which were investigated by the Constituency Executive Committee and the Disciplinary Committee.
The allegations were found to be in breach of Article 3 Clause (9)(1), Clause (7)(1), and Clause (8)(1) of the party’s 2017 amended constitution.
An expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting, attended by members of the Council of Elders, Council of Patrons, and Disciplinary Committee, unanimously decided to suspend the implicated members. The suspension takes effect from December 26, 2024.
Chairman Karim emphasized that the decision was necessary to uphold the principles and integrity of the party’s constitution and ensure accountability among its members.
“I write to humbly notify the National and Regional leadership of the party, as well as the general public, that the following members of the party have forfeited their membership or have been summarily suspended,” he stated.
The suspension demonstrates the NPP’s commitment to enforcing its rules and maintaining discipline within the party.
The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring that members adhere to the party’s constitutional framework and uphold its values.
