Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, the Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, has strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, stating that Ghanaian chiefs will no longer tolerate a presidency like his.
In an interview on GHOne TV, he expressed his disappointment with Akufo-Addo’s approach to traditional rulers, citing instances where chiefs were forced to show undue respect.
A friend of Nana Boadi’s, also a chief, had once said, “Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to stand up to greet him.” Nana Boadi believes this is “not a good legacy”.
He also lamented the president’s failure to build mutual respect between the government and traditional institutions, saying “He could have done more.”
Nana Boadi urged Ghanaians to carefully evaluate the qualities needed in future presidents, stating, “We pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana.”
The Krontihene described Ghana as being in a dire situation due to corrupt practices, saying “Ghana has been stripped naked; mother Ghana is bleeding.”
He drew parallels with the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to restore the nation.
“The robbers have stolen all the goodies. But a Good Samaritan has come to rescue her, put her in a healthy and happy situation, and recover the loot that the robbers took.”
Nana Boadi expressed confidence in former President John Mahama’s potential comeback, seeing it as a divine plan.
“We thank God that the good Lord is about to give the mantle to President John Mahama,” he said, highlighting Mahama’s leadership as a potential solution to Ghana’s challenges.
