The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President-elect John Dramani Mahama for endorsing him to retain his position as Speaker in the upcoming 9th Parliament.
Alban Bagbin assured that he will work tirelessly to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure Parliament remains effective and responsive to the people’s needs and aspirations.
He described his nomination as a “profound responsibility” that he doesn’t take lightly.
On January 5, 2025, President-elect Mahama instructed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate Bagbin as Speaker, following consultations with the party’s leadership and recognizing his exceptional service in Parliament.
As a veteran legislator, Bagbin has held key positions, including Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
In a statement, Bagbin reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the highest standards in the 9th Parliament, pledging to be more dedicated than ever before. “As Speaker of the Ninth Parliament, I will continue to uphold these values and ensure that the Ninth Parliament operates with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness,” he said.
Bagbin also assured President-elect Mahama and the people of Ghana that he will “rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people.”
He thanked Mahama, the National Executives, and the NDC Parliamentary Leadership for the honor of serving a second term as Speaker
