The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner of the Techiman South parliamentary election, after a High Court ruling ordered the EC to complete the collation of results in the constituency.
The court’s decision was prompted by the EC’s failure to collate 147 outstanding polling station results, despite demands to do so.
With the results now finalized, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has secured 46,663 votes, defeating his closest rival, Christopher Beyere Baasongti of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 43,429 votes.
The EC has confirmed that the results will remain unchanged even if one polling station result is added to the votes obtained by any of the candidates.
This development comes as the NPP has had favorable rulings in three other contested constituencies, namely Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.
With only two days left before the swearing-in of new MPs, the EC has moved swiftly to conclude and gazette the results.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intention to appeal the High Court’s ruling on all four constituencies, potentially prolonging the dispute.
