Patrick Yaw Boamah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, has been declared the winner of the Okaikwei Central constituency seat in the Greater Accra region, securing 21,099 votes.
His opponent, Abdulai Abu Baba Saddiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), garnered 19,368 votes.
This announcement comes after a High Court ruling on January 4, which ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of parliamentary results for the constituency.
The court’s decision was prompted by the NPP’s application to compel the EC to finish collating results from 31 outstanding polling stations, which Justice Forson Agyapong deemed a breach of the EC’s obligations.
With the results now finalized, Patrick Yaw Boamah has been declared the winner, marking a significant victory for the NPP.
Okaikwei Central was one of four contested constituencies, along with Ablekuma North, Techhiman South, and Tema Central, where the NPP had favorable rulings.
The EC swiftly commenced the collation process to conclude and gazette the results before the swearing-in of new MPs, which is just two days away.
However, the NDC has announced its intention to appeal the High Court’s ruling on all four constituencies, potentially prolonging the dispute.
