The Ministry of Information has announced that several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed on January 7, 2025, to ensure a secure and seamless inauguration ceremony for President-elect John Mahama.
The closures, which will be in effect from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, will affect key areas around Parliament House and Independence Square.
Affected Areas:
– _Parliament House_: Osu Traffic Light to Parliament House, AU Roundabout, access roads to Parliament from the Electoral Commission, and the security area within the Parliament House premises
– _Independence Square_: 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on Lokko Street, Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, and Starlet 91 Road
Traffic Diversions:
To minimize disruptions, traffic will be diverted through alternative routes, including:
– Traffic from 28th February Road heading to the Central Business District will be redirected onto Salem Avenue at Castle Traffic Light
– Vehicles on John Evans Atta Mills High Street heading towards Black Star Square will be diverted onto Liberia Road at CEPS Headquarters Traffic Light
– Motorists on Lokko Street heading towards Castle Road should use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street
– Traffic from AU Circle to Castle Road will be rerouted via Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads
The Ministry has urged motorists to use alternative routes and comply with directives from security personnel to ensure a smooth and safe inauguration ceremony.
