University of Ghana lecturer, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticism of President John Mahama’s administration, saying the party lacks the credibility to do so.
According to Prof Gyampo, the NPP’s poor governance record under Nana Akufo-Addo disqualifies them from criticizing Mahama’s administration. He made this statement on TV3’s _The Key Points_ on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Prof Gyampo emphasized that the NPP’s attempt to criticize Mahama’s administration, which has been in office for less than a week, is premature and lacks substance.
He argued that the NPP should focus on rebuilding itself rather than criticizing others.
“The relevance of the NPP now won’t lie in its failed officials quickly criticizing Mahama’s administration when they themselves have demonstrated no clue about governance,” Prof Gyampo stated.
He also revealed that he rejected a document seeking his expert review, which focused on opposition criticisms of Mahama’s administration.
Prof Gyampo advised the NPP to leave constructive criticism to civil society and independent experts.
“You must focus on rescuing the soul of your party and leave constructive criticisms to those with permanent interest, not permanent friends,” he emphasized.
The NPP has not officially responded to Prof Gyampo’s comments. However, the party’s recent statements suggest that they will continue to scrutinize Mahama’s administration, despite Prof Gyampo’s warning.
