Mr. Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed surprise and disappointment over the party’s performance in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show on Tuesday, January 14, Mr. Kodua said, “We are still in disbelief; the election outcome has left us stunned.”
According to him, the party had provided unprecedented support to its parliamentary candidates during the election, but the outcome was not what they had expected.
Mr. Kodua attributed the party’s poor performance to widespread apathy within its ranks, which significantly impacted both the presidential and parliamentary outcomes.
He, however, expressed optimism in the committee chaired by Prof. Mike Oquaye, tasked with investigating the factors behind the party’s performance in the 2024 election.
Also on the Ekosiisen show, Mr. Kodua highlighted that the party had learned from past mistakes, particularly the imposition of candidates on constituencies in the 2020 election.
He noted that the party had conducted one of the most transparent and efficient parliamentary primaries in its history, free of any controversy, but the outcome of the election was not what they had expected.
