President John Dramani Mahama is set to meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19, to address the escalating tensions in Bawku and Walewale.
The President made the announcement during his visit to the Nayiri Palace, where he engaged with the King and Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II.
President Mahama expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the Upper East and Northern regions, attributing the ongoing violence to chieftaincy disputes between two ethnic factions.
He called for peace and stressed the importance of leveraging the Asantehene’s wisdom and leadership, noting his proven ability to mediate and resolve conflicts in the past.
The meeting with the Asantehene is expected to help find a sustainable solution to the conflict and foster lasting peace in the region.
