A violent confrontation between local miners and military personnel at the AngloGold Obuasi Gold Mine has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when a group of miners allegedly invaded one of the company’s mine shafts, demanding access to a concession for their operations.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that gunshots were fired during the altercation, leading to the reported deaths and injuries. Unconfirmed reports indicate that approximately 10 miners lost their lives, with several others sustaining injuries.
Disturbing footage obtained by Citi News shows injured individuals with varying degrees of injuries, as well as lifeless bodies. The videos also reveal vandalized vehicles belonging to AngloGold Obuasi Mine, along with damage to other facilities.
Tensions remain high in the area, as AngloGold Obuasi has faced persistent challenges from local miners invading its concessions in recent years.
