President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), effective immediately.
The appointment, announced in a letter dated January 21, 2025, was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984.
Dr. Abbey’s appointment is subject to the advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
President Mahama has expressed confidence in Dr. Abbey’s ability to lead COCOBOD effectively and congratulated him on his new role.
As Acting CEO, Dr. Abbey is expected to bring strategic direction and innovation to COCOBOD, a vital institution in Ghana’s cocoa industry. The cocoa sector is a significant contributor to Ghana’s economy, supporting millions of farmers and driving national revenue.
Dr. Abbey’s leadership will be crucial in addressing pressing issues in the cocoa sector, including farmer welfare, production sustainability, and industry development.
