In a statement dated January 24 and signed by General Secretary Timothy Nyame, PUWU expressed disappointment over the lack of consultation with the union, despite its position as a key stakeholder in matters concerning ECG.
The union criticized the government for sidelining workers in the decision-making process and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of its members and preserving state ownership of ECG.
“While the committee has been established, we want to assure our members of our resolve to resist any attempt by the government to privatize ECG. Members are kindly requested to remain calm while we take the appropriate steps towards achieving our goal, “the statement read.
PUWU called on its members to stay united and remain on standby for further directives, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in opposing privatization efforts.
The union reiterated its commitment to defending public utilities and ensuring that ECG continues to operate as a state-owned entity, contributing to national development.
The union’s firm stance reflects broader concerns about the potential impact of privatization on workers’ rights, job security, and the affordability and accessibility of electricity for Ghanaians.
PUWU emphasized that any decisions regarding the future of ECG must prioritize transparency, fairness, and the interests of the public and workers.
