Lawyers for Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a prominent activist and organizer of Democracy Hub, have vehemently denied allegations linking their client to claims of bribery involving majority members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The controversy surrounds a social media post attributed to Barker-Vormawor, which alleged that committee members accepted bribes.
However, Barker-Vormawor’s lead counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, stated, “The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr. Vormawor. He never posted that statement… This is a reporter’s speech. We apologize for the post he made. Oliver Vormawor is ready to apologize.”
The lawyers clarified that another post on Barker-Vormawor’s Facebook page, accusing all committee members of taking bribes before vetting, was not intended to disparage committee members. Instead, it aimed to inform the public about reports that had come to his attention.
The allegations sparked public debate ahead of the vetting of Defence Minister-designate Dr. Edward Omane Boamah on January 28. Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, rejected the accusations, describing them as baseless and damaging to the vetting process.
