President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has fulfilled a key campaign promise by reducing the Hajj pilgrimage fee for Ghanaian Muslims.
The cost has been slashed by 13,000 Ghana cedis, from 75,000 Ghana cedis under the previous administration to 62,000 Ghana cedis.
This significant reduction follows diligent negotiations and collaborations between the government’s five-member task force and Saudi authorities.
Led by MP Collins Dauda, the task force participated in the Hajj conference in Saudi Arabia and engaged with service providers in Mecca and Madina to secure better rates.
The reduced fare of 62,000 Ghana cedis, equivalent to $4130, is expected to make the pilgrimage more accessible and affordable for Ghanaian Muslims.
