The Concerned Citizens of Northern Gwira in the Nzema East Municipality have appealed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama to consider appointing Mr. Herbert Kuah Dickson as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East.
According to the group, Northern Gwira has been marginalized in terms of political representation since the municipality’s inception, despite their significant contributions to the NDC’s success.
In a press statement issued, they argue that it is time for fair representation and that Mr. Dickson’s appointment will provide a much-needed boost to the area.
Mr. Dickson, a native of Sikaneasem, has been instrumental in the NDC’s victories in the area, serving as an election coordinator from 2016 to 2024. His credentials, combined with his passion for community development, make him an ideal candidate for the MCE position.
“We believe that Mr. Dickson’s appointment will not only provide fair representation but also drive development in our area,” said a spokesperson for the group. “Northern Gwira is one of the most deprived areas in the constituency, lacking accessible roads, stable communication networks, potable water, and modern healthcare facilities.”
The group’s appeal is backed by the chiefs and assembly members of Northern Gwira, who have signed a petition in support of Mr. Dickson’s nomination.
They believe that his appointment will promote equity in the political dispensation of the municipality and solidify the NDC’s relationship with the people of Northern Gwira.
The Concerned Citizens of Northern Gwira are hopeful that their appeal will be considered and that Mr. Dickson will be given the opportunity to serve as MCE of Nzema East.

For Immediate Release
PRESS STATEMENT BY THE CONCERNED CITIZENS OF NORTHERN GWIRA OF NZEMA EAST MUNICIPALITY
‘CONSIDER THE APPOINTMENT OF HERBERT KUAH DICKSON AS NZEMA EAST MCE’
We, the Concerned Citizens of Northern Gwira in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, would like to draw the attention of the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the President of the Republic of Ghana to consider the nomination of Mr Herbert Kuah Dickson, a native of Sikaneasem, near Kutukrom, all of which are located in the Northern Gwira sector of Nzema East Municipality.
Our call is primarily to demonstrate and justify why our son is qualified to serve as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East, given his passion and active participation in the political and community development journey, since 2012.
Reasons for this Appeal:
1. Since the municipality’s inception, the nomination of Municipal Chief Executives; has been focused on Central and Southern Gwira, as well as Ajomoro, excluding Northern Gwira. The two major political parties over the years, have marginalized the people of Northern Gwira when it comes to political representation. We are more alarmed given the massive contribution the people of Northern Gwira have made towards the success of the ruling National Democratic Congress; led by our illustrious son Mr Herbert Kuah Dickson.
2. During the late Prof. Atta Mills’ tenure, the position was given to someone from the Ajomoro enclave and Evalue during President John Mahama’s first tenure. Also, during H.E. Akuffo Addo’s presidency, the MCE was appointed from Gwira Banso, which is in the southern divide. Yet again, Northern Gwira was neglected.
3. We are fully aware that the present NDC constituency chairman is from Gwira Banso, which is located in the southern sector of Gwira, and we believe that appointing a Northern Gwira local will contribute and consolidate to the fair distribution of political leadership in our area. Given that Mr. Herbert Kuah Dickson, is an ardent member of the ruling party, whose effort enormously contributed to the victory of the NDC in the constituency at large; it is only fair and appropriate that our plea to have a fair political representation, be granted.
4. It must also be established that Northern Gwira has not received any top political position from any of the two major parties since 1992, which we believe is unfair given its contribution to the municipality’s cocoa output increase. Any attempt by any of the political parties to give us that fair representation by appointing one of our own, shall go the long way to solidify and deepen our affection for that political party and by large reflect in the election pattern of the area (Northern Gwira) in the next election.
5. We wish to further state that since 1992, the Northern Gwira has been a strong supporter of the NDC and deserves fair representation in the political sphere of the area, but we do not imply an automatic selection of anyone without being meritorious of the position.
6. Mr H. Kuah Dickson epitomizes someone the people have faith in and can be trusted to deliver diligent leadership even as his role as an election coordinator (between 2016 to 2024) for the ruling NDC, is never marred in any form. His outstanding qualities provide a solid foundation for him to be considered as the next MCE of Nzema East to help complement the current government’s development agenda.
7. Again, Northern Gwira is the most deprived area in the constituency, bedevilled with a lack of accessible road network, stable communication network, lack of potable source of drinking water, and modern healthcare facilities and we are of the view that appointing one of our own for the MCE position may drive home these basic services that will surge our local economy.
8. It is also evident to note that the current Member of Parliament for Evalue, Ajomoro Gwira, is from the Evalue enclave (coastal area), while the constituency chairman is from the Southern Gwira divide and has someone from Northern Gwira as the MCE will provide comfort to the people of Northern Gwira and promote equity in the political dispensation of the municipality.
9. We the concerned citizens of Northern Gwira over the years, especially during the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections have made significant contributions to the current government’s landslide victory which has been the pattern since 2016, and all were led by Mr Herbert Kuah Dickson. We hope this is the time to recognize him for his dedication and allegiance to his party.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we, the concerned citizens of Northern Gwira, humbly appeal to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the National Executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to consider appointing Mr Kuah Dickson as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East. His credentials in academic, professional, and political life merit consideration for the position.
