The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Frank Abrokwa, has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters in Accra following the violent disruption of the Council of State election in Kumasi, Citinewsroom reports.
The election turned chaotic on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, when unidentified thugs stormed the voting center, disrupting the counting of ballots and forcing Electoral Commission officials to suspend the process.
The violence allegedly erupted after the unexpected defeat of National Democratic Congress candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely seen as the frontrunner.
Aggrieved supporters demanded a review of the results, and security personnel struggled to contain the situation.
DCOP Abrokwa’s reassignment is seen as a response to his handling of the security situation during the election.
