National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has announced his decision to step down from his position.
In an interview with Citi FM, he revealed that he will not seek re-election in the next NDC executive elections.
“Election is next year and I will not contest for re-election. So somebody else will take my place,” he stated.
Opare Addo clarified that his decision is not mandated by law, but rather a personal choice. “No law has asked me to resign. If the president asks me to resign from the party position, I will,” he added.
Opare Addo also addressed concerns that the recent appointment of several party executives to government positions may weaken the party.
However, he reassured party members that the NDC’s strength and unity will remain intact.
“There are 38 of us at the party office. So, if four are taken out, the party has a lot of people to fill the gap… So, the party will not be weakened, that I can assure everybody. We still have a lot of human resources who will fill in for us when we are not around,” he stated.
