
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses regarding the alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
At a press conference on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that the investigation primarily targets four individuals, including Jacob Amoah, Coordinator of the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF); Wendy Ashong Newman and Freda Tandoh, both staff of the NPA; and Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive of the NPA.
“The OSP has commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses in respect of an alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA),” Agyebeng stated.
“The investigation primarily targets the following persons: the coordinator of the UPPF, Jacob Amoah, NPA’s staff Wendy Ashong Newman, NPA’s staff Freda Tandoh, and a former Chief Executive of the NPA, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid,” he added.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid served as the NPA CEO from 2021 to early 2024, during which the authority was responsible for regulating petroleum product pricing, ensuring fuel quality standards, and managing the UPPF.
The OSP’s investigation aims to uncover any wrongdoing and ensure accountability in the management of public funds.
