President John Dramani Mahama has terminated the appointment of Dr. Alexander Adusei as Director of the Keta Port project.
The project, announced in 2018, has stalled despite initial promises.
Dr. Adusei was appointed in 2019 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo to oversee the port’s development in the Volta Region. However, the project’s lack of progress is believed to have contributed to his dismissal.
The Keta Port project was a key initiative under the previous administration, with plans for the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to oversee its development.
However, despite the announcement, no significant development has taken place, causing frustration among locals and stakeholders.
President Mahama had criticized the previous administration’s handling of the project during the 2024 election campaign, pointing out that no progress had been made after eight years.
Although six private investors expressed interest in partnering with the government to develop the facility in August 2024, no agreements have been reached.
