President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Edward Bawa, the recently appointed CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), to lead GOIL, the nation’s leading indigenous oil marketing company, as its Group CEO.
Bawa’s appointment to GNPC was announced on January 16, 2025, replacing Joseph Dadzie. However, in a surprise move, he has now been tasked with leading GOIL, generating significant interest in the energy sector.
The reasons behind Bawa’s sudden reassignment are unclear, but according to Citi News, the appointment takes immediate effect. This development leaves the GNPC CEO position vacant, with no immediate announcement regarding a replacement.
Bawa brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Before his appointment to GNPC, he served as the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2025, playing a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s energy legislation and policy.
His expertise extends beyond politics, with experience as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy.
Bawa’s credentials include certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization, solidifying his extensive knowledge of the energy sector.
