In a move aimed at promoting transparency and accountability, President John Dramani Mahama has publicly declared his assets to the Auditor-General.
The declaration, made on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Jubilee House, provides a detailed account of Mahama’s financial holdings, properties, and other assets.
“I have taken the step of presenting these forms publicly as a way of injecting some openness and transparency into the process of asset declaration,” Mahama said in a statement.
He emphasized the importance of transparency in rebuilding public trust.
Mahama stressed that preventing corruption is more effective than punishing it.
“I honestly believe that if properly created and enforced, the asset declaration can become a sustainable tool for tackling corruption,” he said.
The president urged all government appointees to follow his lead in declaring their assets publicly, warning that failure to do so may result in termination from office.
This move is seen as a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in Ghana’s government.
