President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that an estimated $1.7 billion is required to complete the outstanding Agenda 111 projects.
This revelation comes amidst concerns over the slow pace of progress on these initiatives, which were launched by the previous administration.
According to President Mahama, “The previous government started Agenda 111 but has not been able to finish the hospitals. There are so many of them unfinished. Even the ones they commissioned don’t have a single bed.” He further emphasized the need for additional funding, stating, “Now we need 1.7 billion US dollars to complete the Agenda 111 projects.”
In an effort to accelerate the completion of these projects, President Mahama proposed a collaborative approach during a meeting with the Christian Council.
He suggested that religious organizations with existing hospitals in certain areas could partner with the government to enhance these facilities.
“If the missions have a hospital in an area, we are not coming to compete with the missions by building a hospital. We will use the resources to improve the mission hospitals so that they can provide the service,” President Mahama explained.
Additionally, he proposed, “So I am also proposing that if some of the missions are interested, they could finish some of the hospitals and manage them.”
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to completing all outstanding Agenda 111 projects, ensuring they meet the healthcare needs of Ghanaians.
