The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, is scheduled to appear before Parliament on March 5, 2025, to address concerns regarding the construction of the central bank’s new head office.
This follows a request from Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in August 2023 for detailed information on the project’s financing, cost, scope, and timelines.
According to the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, the bank’s management will need to provide justifications for the construction of the new building.
“We have decided at the committee meeting that next week, Wednesday, we will invite the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as an independent constitutional body, to come to this house to brief us on the pricing of the new Bank of Ghana head office building,” he stated.
“We want to know how the price variation took place, how quantities were, and the justification for the need for a new Bank of Ghana Headquarters,” he added.
The new headquarters, known as the Bank Square, was inaugurated by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on November 20, 2024. The facility boasts innovative architecture and advanced technology, reflecting the central bank’s commitment to operational excellence and economic resilience.
The Bank Square is expected to enhance the Bank of Ghana’s capacity to regulate and oversee Ghana’s evolving financial system effectively.
