The Ghana Italian Women Association (GIWA) and its partners, Grimaldi Shipping Line and MEWE Nii Amaa Ollennu Foundation, on Friday, February 21, 2025, donated around 500 school tables to 10 selected basic and senior high schools in Axim and its environs.
The donation, facilitated by the Nkosuohene of Lower Axim, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, and the Lower Axim Traditional Council, aimed to supplement the area’s educational sector.
Beneficiary schools include Axim Senior High Girls, Akonu-Domunli-Agyan M/A, Dr Bemish Basic School, Anglican Basic School, Axim Methodist Basic School, Apewosika M/A, Axim Roman Catholic Basic School, Allasunah Islamic Basic School, Dadwen M/A, and Ankyinyin M/A.
Nii Amaa Ollennu of the MEWE Nii Amaa Ollennu Foundation, one of the donors, emphasised that the donation was part of his partner’s efforts to supplement the country’s educational sector shortfall, which prompted the presentation.
He went on to say that education is the backbone of the future generation and that it must be prioritised for them to reach their goal of becoming valuable members of society. “I entreat every student to aim for the best in all their academics and refrain from all forms of acts that will jeopardise their chances of achieving their desired aspirations”. Nii Amaa Ollennu emphasised.
He commended his partners, the Ghana Italian Women’s Association, Grimaldi Shipping Line, M. Barbissotti, for facilitating the shipment of the desks from Italy to Ghana, and Axim for the successful exercise.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Asamoah, the Nzema East Municipal Coordinating Director, thanked the donors and traditional leaders on behalf of the Assembly for their timely involvement in assisting the schools, as the Municipality is in desperate need of such aid.
Mr Kwasi Asamoah, the acting Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), assured the contributors, particularly Nii Amaa Ollennue, of the Assembly’s continued involvement and assistance in future initiatives.
Nana Amo Meizah, the Ninfahene of the Lower Axim Traditional Council and a representative of HRM Awulae Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Council, lauded Nii Amaa Ollennu and his partners, including the Ghana Italian Women Association (GIWA), Grimaldi Shipping Line, and M. Barbisotti, for the gesture.
He eulogised the traditional council’s over two decades relationship with Nii Amaa Ollennu for furthering the council’s development objectives of the people, emphasising some key contributions such as health, education, infrastructure, and human development programmes being made.
