President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), following the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.
The ceremony, which took place at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, marks a significant shake-up within the Ghana Police Service. Dr. Dampare’s dismissal is believed to be part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at reshaping the leadership and operational direction of the country’s law enforcement agency.
During his tenure, Dr. Dampare implemented key policing reforms, introducing initiatives to improve public trust and security. His leadership was characterized by enhanced community engagement, internal discipline measures, and a focus on professionalizing the service.
Security experts credit Dr. Dampare with contributing to a reduction in crime and fostering greater accountability within the force. His removal has sparked interest in the direction of policing in Ghana under COP Yohuno’s leadership.
COP Yohuno brings over 40 years of experience to his new role and is widely regarded as an outstanding officer. The government has expressed its full confidence in Yohuno’s ability to lead the service with professionalism, aiming to strengthen security and ensure greater efficiency across the nation.
