
In a major shake-up, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed new acting service chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), pending consultation with the Council of State.
The appointments, announced on Monday, March 17, will take effect on March 24, 2025.
The new leadership includes Brigadier General William Agyapong as Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu as Acting Chief of Army Staff, Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing as Acting Chief of Naval Staff, Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong as Acting Chief of Air Staff, and Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan as Acting Chief of Staff.
President Mahama met with the outgoing service chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, to express his gratitude for their dedicated service. He praised their expertise and experience, stating that it would remain invaluable in shaping Ghana’s security policies.
The changes are seen as a strategic move to reinvigorate the military leadership and enhance national security.
