Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Aizuddin Mohammed has fired back at President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the Akufo-Addo administration grossly mismanaged the economy.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s “The Point of View” with Bernard Avle, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam insisted that the economy was thriving when the previous government handed over power.
“The new government, right from the beginning, tried to paint a certain picture of the economy they inherited. I think that they just wanted to give excuses by saying that the economy was bad, it was crimally mismanaged, the economy was in crisis,” Dr. Amin Adam stated.
He further emphasized that this narrative was crafted to garner public support for stringent policy measures. “So that the goodwill they have, they can be able to push certain policies no matter how bitter those policies are. And people will understand because they inherited a bad situation, so let’s bear with them.”
Dr. Amin Adam’s comments come as a direct response to President Mahama’s claims of economic mismanagement.
The former Finance Minister’s assertions highlight the ongoing debate over Ghana’s economic trajectory and the differing narratives surrounding the country’s financial management.
