President John Dramani Mahama has charged the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, to revolutionize the country’s prisons into rehabilitation centers focused on reforming offenders.
At a swearing-in ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, President Mahama emphasized the critical role the Prison Service plays in rehabilitating offenders and upholding justice. “The responsibility falls on you, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, to lead the charge in transforming our prisons into true centres of reformation and not just a place for incarceration. You have my full support in this mission,” he stated.
President Mahama expressed confidence in Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership, citing the need for significant reforms to enhance prison operations and conditions nationwide.
The appointment of Baffoe-Bonnie marks a significant shift in the government’s approach to prison reform, prioritizing rehabilitation and reformation over detention.
