Tensions are running high in Bawku after military personnel allegedly brutalized several residents, including women and the elderly, in a retaliatory attack.
The incident, which occurred during curfew hours, has left multiple residents with severe injuries, including broken limbs. The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Vineyard Hospital in Bawku.
According to eyewitnesses, the military personnel targeted specific neighborhoods, using aggressive tactics to force residents out of their homes. The attack is believed to be a response to the killing of a military officer in the area earlier this week.
Local authorities have condemned the military’s actions, with the Assembly member for the Daduri electoral area describing the incident as “unfortunate”. An investigation into the matter is pending.
