Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the recent raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Srem-Sai defended the action, stating that it was a lawful operation.
The raid, which took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, has been met with widespread criticism, with many accusing National Security operatives of overstepping their bounds. The incident has also sparked concerns about the targeting of former government officials.
Srem-Sai, however, maintained that the operation was conducted with proper authorization.
“We take responsibility for the search that happened,” he said. “We want to make it clear that those searches and the mode in which they were done were in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and used.”
The Deputy Minister’s comments are likely to do little to quell the controversy surrounding the raid.
The Minority has already condemned the incident, labeling it as politically motivated. The raid on Dr. Addison’s home is not an isolated incident, as security personnel have also searched the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in recent weeks.
As the debate over the raid continues to simmer, many are watching to see how the situation will unfold. One thing is certain, however: the incident has raised important questions about the role of National Security operatives and the need for greater transparency in their operations.
