Lawyers for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the immediate past Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have filed an application at the High Court in Accra seeking bail.
The couple, currently in custody, has been accused of diverting GH¢39.46 million into their private company in a $7 million cyber-defence software deal for the state.
While Mr Adu-Boahene was granted police inquiry bail of GH¢120 million, his wife was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢80 million, both with justification. However, they have been unable to meet the bail conditions.
In an application filed today (March 25, 2025) by their lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, counsel described the bail conditions imposed by the Attorney-General and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as “onerous” and an attempt to keep his clients in detention beyond the 48-hour constitutional limit.
“The Respondents, with a clear motive to incarcerate the Applicants beyond the 48-hour period as spelt out by the Constitution, have imposed burdensome and unreasonable conditions,” the application stated.
Mr Atta Akyea further alleged that his clients’ right to legal representation had been violated, claiming that EOCO Deputy Executive Director, Raymond Archer, ignored his attempts to engage with authorities on their behalf.
The High Court is expected to hear the bail application on Friday, March 28, 2025.
