A significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers. Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, announced that 40 out of the over 1,300 missing containers have been recovered.
In an interview on TV3, Jinapor revealed that the containers were found in a warehouse in Kpone, owned by an Indian national, who has since been taken into custody.
“The briefing I got this morning—and let me commend the National Security Operatives and the law enforcement agencies—the information I got is that already they’ve traced about 40 of them to a particular terminal warehouse in Kpone, which belonged to an Indian man, and they have confiscated all the 40 containers and moved them to a secured location,” he stated.
The suspect claims to have purchased the containers last year, but Jinapor assures that investigations are ongoing to verify this claim.
“There are also reports of some other areas where they are picking intelligence. They will trace and retrieve all of them and fish out the perpetrators before a court of competent jurisdiction,” he added.
Jinapor emphasized the government’s commitment to retrieving the missing containers and holding those responsible accountable.
“When we start prosecuting these people, let no one say that this is witch-hunting. These are properties of the state, and we will use every legitimate means to ensure that we retrieve them,” he stressed.
The recovery of the 40 containers is a significant step forward in the investigation, which was sparked by an investigative report revealing a discrepancy in the number of ECG containers at the Tema Port.
