The People’s National Party (PNP) has launched a scathing attack on President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of betraying the trust of women by attempting to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo from office.
In a strongly worded statement, PNP Chairperson and Leader Janet Nabla expressed disappointment and outrage at Mahama’s actions, which she claimed contradicted his campaign promises to empower women.
“His pledge to implement the Affirmative Action Law and ensure 30% representation of women in his government has been abandoned. Instead of delivering on his promise, he is actively seeking ways to remove those who were there before his tenure,” Nabla said.
The PNP leader argued that Mahama’s focus on the Chief Justice and the Electoral Commissioner was a diversionary tactic, aimed at distracting from pressing governance issues.
“Since assuming office, instead of focusing on delivering his manifesto promises to improve the lives of Ghanaians, President Mahama has been fixated on the Chief Justice and the Electoral Commissioner,” Nabla noted.
The party’s criticism of Mahama’s actions was unsparing, with Nabla suggesting that the president’s true motives were rooted in a desire to manipulate the system for his own gain.
“His actions suggest that his priority is not governance but manipulating the system to secure victory in the 2028 elections—or worse, to set the stage for his own return after exhausting his two-term limit.”
