The fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, has taken center stage with the government reaffirming its commitment to eradicating the practice. Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has assured Ghanaians that the issue is being treated with utmost urgency.
“We are treating the matter as an emergency. We’re working around the clock, 24 hours a day. These matters must be dealt with all the urgency and emergency they deserve,” Buah stated on The Point of View on Channel One TV.
The Minister highlighted President Mahama’s prioritization of the galamsey crisis, noting that significant progress is already being made.
Kofi Buah expressed confidence in the government’s approach, emphasizing that all necessary measures are being implemented to tackle the problem.
“As a Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, I can tell the people of Ghana that we are dealing with this matter with all the emergency measures, all the urgency, the seriousness, and that they can be assured that we will be relentless and we will win the fight,” he declared.
The government’s efforts to combat galamsey are part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable mining practices, protect the environment, and ensure the long-term prosperity of Ghana’s natural resources.
