A devastating gas explosion occurred at a residence in Oyoko, a suburb of the New Juaben North Municipality in the Eastern Region, leaving one person dead and two others severely injured.
The victim, Asante Rose, a student of Purchasing and Supply at the Koforidua Technical University, succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival at the Eastern Regional Hospital.
The two injured survivors, a young boy and a lady, are currently battling for their lives at the hospital.
Eyewitnesses report that a gas leakage was detected in the kitchen, and Rose attempted to locate the source of the leak. Tragically, she lit a match, which ignited the gas and caused the explosion.
The Ghana National Fire Service was dispatched to the scene to contain the situation and assist the police in their investigation.
The management of the Koforidua Technical University has been notified of the incident by Rose’s family.
