Ghana’s Parliament has given the green light to a substantial allocation of funds for education-related projects in constituencies across the country.
Each Member of Parliament will receive GHC250,000 through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) distribution formula to support education initiatives in their respective constituencies.
Additionally, GHC150,000 has been earmarked for monitoring purposes, bringing the total allocation per MP to GHC400,000.
According to Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the allocation is a direct result of lobbying efforts by MPs.
“We suggested to the finance minister that there should be some re-alignment and upward adjustments to the project fund for MPs,” Annoh-Dompreh explained.
The Minority Chief Whip praised the finance minister and the GETFund administrator for their prompt response to the MPs’ requests.
“And following the pressures that MPs often come under, educational needs across the country, there should be some upward adjustments, relative project fund for MPs. And the administrator [GETFund] and the finance minister complied and acceded to our requests,” he said.
