President John Dramani Mahama has signed into law a series of bills repealing several taxes, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.
This move marks a significant fulfillment of his campaign promise to alleviate the financial burden on Ghanaians.
The repeal of these taxes follows the presentation of eight bills to Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on March 13, 2025.
The bills aimed to repeal and amend various taxes and levies, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025, and the Emissions Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025.
The E-Levy, introduced in 2022, had imposed a 1% charge on electronic transactions, sparking widespread public resistance.
The Betting Tax, which levied a 10% charge on gross winnings from gambling activities, also faced criticism from stakeholders.
Mahama’s administration has moved swiftly to abolish these taxes, honoring his pledge to do so within his first 120 days in office.
This development is expected to provide relief to Ghanaians who have been bearing the brunt of these taxes.
