
A mining pit collapse in Mpasatia, Atwima Mponua District, has claimed the lives of two individuals, with several others still trapped underground.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 am on Tuesday, according to Salifu Karim, Assembly Member for Mpasatia Ahembronum Electoral Area.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Karim confirmed that two bodies had been retrieved from the pit, while rescue efforts continued to locate the remaining trapped individuals.
“We have received rumors that there were many people around the place, but eyewitnesses confirmed that there were about five people in the pit,” Mr. Karim stated.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Afari Community Mortuary.
Rescue teams are working to retrieve the remaining individuals trapped in the pit, but the exact number of those still underground remains unconfirmed.
