A daring operation by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command has resulted in the seizure of a truckload of electrical cables suspected to be stolen from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port.
The truck, registered GC 7410-11, was intercepted at Gomoa Awombrew in the Gomoa Central District on Wednesday. Police sources revealed that the vehicle’s breakdown near Awombrew raised suspicions about its cargo, prompting a search that uncovered the stolen cables.
Four suspects, including the driver and three passengers, were taken into custody and are currently assisting police with investigations. The suspects’ names have not been disclosed, pending further investigation.
According to Citinewsroom report, the seized cables are believed to be part of the missing containers from the ECG at Tema Port. The police are working to determine the origin and intended destination of the cables.
The successful operation is a significant blow to cable thieves, who have been wreaking havoc on the country’s power infrastructure. The police have vowed to continue their crackdown on cable theft and bring those responsible to justice.
The case is currently under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
