
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating a shooting incident that occurred at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi on April 4, 2025. A 16-year-old student is in custody, and one student is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.
According to preliminary investigations, the student brought a locally manufactured pistol to school, which accidentally discharged, injuring another student. The pistol, loaded with one BB ammunition, was taken from the student’s father’s bedroom without consent.
The injured student is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The empty cartridge has been retrieved as evidence, and authorities are working to locate and apprehend the father to aid in the investigation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, Public Affairs Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed the incident in a statement issued today. Ahianyo assured the public that the police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation. The incident has raised concerns about school safety and the accessibility of firearms to minors.
