The Minerals Commission has unearthed damning evidence of Akonta Mining Limited’s involvement in illegal mining activities within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
Despite the company’s vehement denials, the Commission is confident that the evidence will lead to prosecution.
According to Isaac Andrew Tandoh, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, the evidence includes video footage and location data that clearly show Akonta Mining operating in the protected forest.
The Commission has handed over the case to the Attorney General, urging swift action against those responsible.
The development follows the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ cancellation of Akonta Mining’s lease due to the company’s unauthorized operations in forest reserves.
The Minister’s decision underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and holding accountable those who flout the law.
