Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that he will not seek re-election for his position.
During an appearance on Citi TV’s Point of View on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Gyamfi stated, “It’s obvious that I won’t contest as National Communications Officer again.”
Sammy Gyamfi was first elected as the party’s communications officer in 2018 with a significant majority, garnering 6,225 votes out of 9,000 cast, beating his contender Fred Agbenyo who secured 2,225 votes. He was later re-elected in 2022 for another four-year term.
As the current Managing Director of Goldbod, Mr. Gyamfi has played a crucial role in shaping the party’s message and ensuring the re-election of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
His strategic approach to communication has helped the NDC navigate complex political situations and maintain a strong online presence.
Although Mr.Gyamfi did not indicate his next position to contest, it is believed he would make that announcement when the party opens nominations for national executive elections.
Sammy Gyamfi’s decision has sparked a mix of reactions from party members and the general public, with some praising his selflessness and willingness to step aside, while others wonder what prompted this decision.
As one of the key figures in the NDC’s communication team, Sammy Gyamfi’s departure will undoubtedly create a void that the party will need to fill. The NDC will have to identify a suitable replacement who can build on the foundations laid by Mr.Gyamfi and maintain the party’s strong communication presence.
