
President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in the newly appointed service commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces as members of the Armed Forces Council.
The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, ahead of a scheduled meeting to discuss key issues, including promotions and military modernization.
The newly inducted commanders are:
– Major General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff
– Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff
– Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff
– Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, Chief of Air Staff
President Mahama charged the commanders to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity, emphasizing the Armed Forces’ critical role in maintaining national peace and security. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Ministers Dr. Edward Omane Boamah (Defence), Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka (Interior), and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (Foreign Affairs).
The Armed Forces Council, which advises the President on military organization and administration, is expected to meet regularly to address strategic concerns and enhance the Armed Forces’ operational capacity and readiness.
