Ghana’s U-15 girls’ team, the Black Damsels, made history on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by winning the CAF African Schools Football Championship at their first attempt after two unsuccessful qualification bids in the past two years.
They clinched a 2-0 victory over Uganda at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Their triumph sees them set to pocket $300,000 in prize money, which will be used to support school football development projects as announced by CAF.
The Black Damsels, playing in their maiden appearance at the CAF African Schools Football Championship, showed remarkable composure and determination on the road to clinching the title. After a closely contested first half, midfielder Belinda Kpentey broke the deadlock with a brilliant strike early in the second half, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations. Striker Daniela Abass doubled Ghana’s advantage moments later, sealing the historic win for the debutants.

Earlier in the match, Ghana nearly opened the scoring when Rahama Azimpaga Mohammed’s effort narrowly missed the target in the 12th minute. However, the team remained disciplined and patient, eventually overpowering a resilient Ugandan side.
The final was witnessed by a host of dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, GFA President Kurt Okraku, and Black Stars legends Asamoah Gyan, Fatau Dauda, and John Paintsil, alongside other legends of African football, all of whom were present to celebrate the future of African football.
The colourful closing ceremony was highlighted by a performance from the AfroStar Kids Academy, led by popular dancer Afronita.

Ghana’s girls’ team’s historic victory follows the boys’ U-15 side clinching bronze earlier in the day, earning them $150,000 in prize money.
All prize monies are expected to be channelled towards enhancing football and educational programs in Ghanaian schools.
