The Keta Divisional Police Command in the Volta Region has destroyed 24 bags of suspected cannabis, valued at GH₵360,000, intercepted at Adzido beach in the Keta Municipality. The suspected weed was seized on December 29, 2023, and destroyed on April 25, 2025.
According to Chief Superintendent Maxwell Agyemang, Keta Divisional Police Commander, the cannabis was dumped at Adzido beach by unknown culprits.
“We had a tipoff about the suspect, who dumped the cannabis at Adzido, and we intercepted it, unfortunately, no arrest was made,” he said.
Each of the 24 bags contained 30 wrapped pieces, with each piece estimated to cost GH₵500. Superintendent Agyemang noted that investigations were conducted to apprehend the culprits, but none have been identified.
The Keta Divisional Command has been working to address drug abuse in the area. “The use of illicit drugs is against the laws of the country, and we promise to do everything possible to crack down on the use of illicit drugs among the youth within the Municipality,” Superintendent Agyemang stated.
He also mentioned that many young students in senior and junior high schools have been engaging in drugs like tramadol, tamaking, and cannabis, which can destroy their future.
The police command has planned a comprehensive education program on drug abuse and addiction in the communities.
Madam Elaina Annor-Agyapong, Senior Narcotic Drugs Control Officer at Aflao, who witnessed the destruction, urged the youth to desist from using unprescribed drugs, citing consequences like sickness, mental disorder, death, and imprisonment.
“The consequences of using hard drugs include sickness, mental disorder, death, imprisonment, among others,” she said.
