In a significant departure from the usual political rhetoric, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has acknowledged the mistakes made by the previous NPP administration and sought forgiveness from Ghanaians.
Speaking during the party’s “Thank You Tour” in Goaso, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude to the people while also reflecting on the shortcomings of the administration he served.
He stated that the tour was not just a celebration, but a moment for “sober reflection” on the government’s actions.
Dr. Bawumia pledged to take responsibility for the government’s lapses, promising to “correct our lapses and deliver even better governance in the future.”
He emphasized the need for unity and a renewed commitment to national development, urging Ghanaians to “move forward together with a renewed sense of purpose.”
“We recognise that we have made mistakes along the way, and we sincerely ask for your forgiveness,” Dr. Bawumia said, striking a humble tone.
He added that the party had listened to the concerns of Ghanaians and was determined to chart a new path forward together.
Dr. Bawumia’s comments mark a significant shift in the party’s approach, as he takes ownership of the government’s mistakes and promises to do better in the future. The NPP flagbearer’s gesture may help to rebuild trust and confidence in his leadership.
